”Wait!” says Micah as we’re on a drive through the mountains. “Are trees alive?”

”They sure are.” I say.

”Then why don’t they have eyes?”

At bedtime Micah is so proud and happy as he recounts how he learned to ride a bike today. He gets a little wistful, “I wish we could go back in time to when I started learning.” He grins. “The parking lot was as big as a monster truck place!”

Micah gets up from the couch, his stomach rumbling. “I’m getting an applesauce because I’m getting hungrier by the minute.”

Commenting on the cold and grey look outside, Micah says, “It looks like it’s back in the days.”

Micah: “Let’s play McDonalds.”

Sarah: “Okay, I’ll do the drive-thru.”

Micah: “Well, your meal’s gonna take longer cause it’s gonna be messed up.”

Sarah: “Okay, how about chicken nuggets and a slushie?”

Micah: “We’re out of the blue ones.”

A few days after Groundhog Day Brin asks me, “Wait, what was the groundhog’s name? Hunkadavius Phil?”

Micah picks out a button-up shirt and asks for help buttoning it. “I want to look good today, like I’m in the sunshine mood.”

Brinley has a play date with a friend later today. “Ooh!” says Micah. “When she’s gone we can yell weird stuff.”

Micah jumps up onto bed and bangs his knee against the nightstand, the pain bringing tears to his eyes. Between sobs he says, “I wish getting hurt wasn’t even a thing!”
